Fall Event 2003 |
| The Diversity Committee's Fall Event of November 6, 2003, was entitled, The Poet Who Transcended Herself. This time together brought to a close our year's focus on Women in the Arts and Sciences. In 2004, we will be exploring our world's continents, beginning with Africa, which was the theme at the Holiday Party on December 11, 2003. |
| To
express this finale, the Diversity Committee presented Christa Laririt,
a local poet who uses multiple means of expression to convey her
experience and observations. Along with words, she integrates
her study of dance, martial arts, yoga, and
visual images with her artistic
passion to
share her perceptions. Her poetry-reading from Rose's Collage included her own dance
presentation. Christa had just published her first book of poetry, Rose's Collage (Calliope Books, 2003). The cover of Rose's Collage was featured at The Power of Women art exhibit, Women's Center Art Gallery, University of California, Santa Barbara, January-March, 2003. Christa is now working on her second book called Figures Upon Figures. This exciting November 6, 2003, poetry-reading ended with a raffle, sponsored by the Diversity Committee, at which three members of the audience won copies of Rose's Collage! |
