A Tribute to a Dear Friend

Sandy DeRousse
Honorary Member

Before her retirement in February, 2001, from the position of assistant to Dr. Ronald W. Tobin, the Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Programs, Sandy DeRousse, the Founding Chair of the OAP Diversity Committee for two years, was also a member of the Committee for four years.

Sandy was strongly committed to the ideals of fairness and respect. "Being a part of this committee over the years," she said, "helped educate me and opened my mind to the human attitudes and emotions that make up our diverse world." While Sandy was here at UCSB, she made it a personal and professional conviction to continue to promote an environment that deals openly with diversity issues, in order to create a more enlightened work place at UCSB.

Sandy now works with her husband in a business that they own here in Santa Barbara, California. Although retired from UCSB, she remains active in the community. We thank Sandy for the service she gave us while she was on our campus, and we wish her much success in her future plans. We will always think of Sandy DeRousse as a special friend of cultural diversity at UCSB. The best to you, Sandy, from all of us!
